Orochimaru being a parent and letting Mitsuki make his own path is the best version that I've seen of him so far

Now we know what Mitsuki will look like when he grows up. And it was a really surprising (the sage mode) and sweet (Orochi so getting into the role of a parent). Hope is still there.
And that one question to Orochimaru, "Are you my mother or father?" Oml xD

He did not like how he turned out so he deleted his memory's and started over...
More or less he killed him over and over again tell he turned out close to what he wanted.
I'm betting deleted his memory's is cheaper and faster then re-cloning.

Orochimaru doing all this to try and get Mitsuki to create his own path is actually wholesome

Mitsuki as a character is so well written, up until now my favourite character in the Boruto series!

It's confirmed, Mitsuki was atleast Chuunin level before getting to the academy.

Okay, let me try to break this unorthodox parenting style down:

1. Mitsuki means "snake vessel" which name implies Orochimaru just farming mitsuki's to get a new body which is very, very, very sad (also this vessel children theme in Boruto, won't be surprised if we see an Otsutsuki tier vessel child later)

2. Orochimaru has 2 kids apparently, and as much as he comes off messed up and disturbing, he does truly love them though does it unorthodoxly.

3. I would assume the methods he is using on the younger Mitsuki is to make him "human" or make decisions for himself, while also ensuring he has access to high level power (sage chakra)

4. Based on the method of how he made his children, I do support this method of parenting. Normally I would find mind alteration evil, but in this case, Mitsuki is not human and you have to go through different methods to make healthy children.

5. I wonder what's up with the older Mitsuki then? Did he already pass? How is he different? Are they still a loving family? I would assume so since Orochimaru, Naruto, everyone supports the younger one.
